YASHVEER INDER SURDAV SINGH
Yashveer Singh is an independent regional historian and author based in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Writing under the imprint Ground Level Histories, Yashveer is dedicated to uncovering and preserving the often-overlooked narratives of South Africa’s past. His historical research focuses extensively on the heritage of Indian indentured laborers in the region. Through meticulous groundwork, he has successfully documented and registered critical heritage sites, including the Hyde Park Cemetery in KwaDukuza and the Ballengeich cemetery, with the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRIS). Yashveer made his publishing debut in 2026 with The Story of Hyde Park Cemetery: A legacy of Indian Indentured labourers and the Singh Family, a deeply personal and thoroughly researched exploration of regional history. He is currently working on his second major historical manuscript, Gandhi's Satyagraha: Indentured and 'Free' Indians of Ballengeich, Natal.
